What this does

Places a call from your desk phone — to a colleague’s extension, or to any outside number, mobile or international.

What you’ll need

  • A desk phone registered to your extension, set up by us (see Connect your new Bluehubcloud handset).
  • The number you want to call. For a colleague, their extension number; for anyone else, the number exactly as you’d dial it from a mobile.

Steps

Calling a colleague:

  1. Lift the handset, or press the Speaker or Headset key if you’d rather not pick it up.
  2. Dial their extension number.
  3. Press Send (on some phones it’s Dial, Call, or the # key). If you wait a few seconds without pressing anything, most phones dial for you.

Calling an outside number:

  1. Lift the handset (or press Speaker / Headset).
  2. Dial the full number as you would from a mobile — for example the area code and number for a landline, or the mobile number starting with 04. There’s no need to dial 0 first for an outside line.
  3. Press Send, or wait a few seconds.

Calling overseas: dial the international prefix your phone system uses (usually 0011 in Australia), then the country code and number. Some phones let you hold the 0 key to enter a + instead.

Calling someone from your call history: press the History or Redial key, scroll to the entry, and press Send or Dial. To ring back the last person who called you, see How do I call back the last person who rang me?.

Ending the call: hang up the handset, or press End Call / the Speaker key if you were on speaker.

What you should see

The screen shows the number you dialled, then “Calling”, then the call timer once the other side answers. For a colleague, their name usually appears instead of the number.

Troubleshooting

  • I hear nothing when I dial, or a fast busy tone. Check the phone is registered — most handsets show a line or account icon that’s greyed out or crossed when they aren’t. If it stays that way, see Connect your new Bluehubcloud handset, or contact us.
  • A recorded message says the number can’t be dialled. Check the number — a missing digit or area code is the usual cause. If the number is right, the call may be blocked by a dialling rule on your phone system; contact us and we’ll check.
  • The call goes through but nobody can hear me. Make sure you haven’t pressed Mute, and that the handset cord is firmly in. On speaker, check nothing is covering the microphone.
  • I want to hide my number for this call. Dial *81 before the number — see How do I hide my caller ID for a call from my desk phone?.
  • I need to dial the same numbers often. Set up speed dial (see How do I use speed dial from my desk phone?).
