What this does
Stops your number showing on the other person’s phone — for one call, or for every call until you switch it back on. The person you ring sees “Private” or “No Caller ID” instead.
What you’ll need
- A desk phone registered to your extension, set up by us (see Connect your new Bluehubcloud handset).
- Nothing else. If a code doesn’t respond, contact us and we’ll check your extension.
Steps
Hiding your number for one call only:
- Pick up the handset and dial *81 followed by the number you want to ring, all in one go. Only that call goes out with your number hidden.
Hiding your number for every call until you turn it back on:
- Dial *67 and hang up after the confirmation. All your outgoing calls now hide your number.
Showing your number again:
- Dial *68 and hang up after the confirmation. Your number shows on calls as normal.
Choosing which of your business numbers to show: if your phone system has more than one number set up for your extension, you can pick one for a particular call — dial *65, then the number you want to show, then the number you’re ringing. Ask us which numbers are set up for you.
What you should see
Ring a mobile you have to hand: with *81 or *67 in effect it shows “Private” or “No Caller ID” instead of your business number. After *68 it shows your number again.
Troubleshooting
- My number still shows after *67. Some outside numbers, such as emergency services, always receive caller ID — that’s a rule of the phone network. For an ordinary number, wait a moment and try again; if it still shows, contact us.
- I hid my number and now nobody picks up. Many people don’t answer private numbers. Dial *68 to show your number again.
- I want my number hidden permanently. Ask us to set it on your extension so you don’t have to dial a code each time.
- Which number do people normally see? Your business number as set by your phone system administrator. If it’s wrong, contact us.
