What this does

Lets you ring a number you call often by dialling a short code instead of the full number. Your phone system can have company-wide speed dials everyone shares, and you can add your own personal ones as well.

What you’ll need

Steps

Dialling a speed dial:

  1. Pick up the handset and dial *130 followed by the speed dial code. For example, if the code for your supplier is 55, dial *13055.
  2. The call connects to the full number behind that code.

Adding your own speed dial:

  1. Log in to the Online Self Care portal and open Enhanced Services, then Speed Dial.
  2. Add a new entry with a two-digit code (for example 55), a name so you remember what it is, and the number to dial — an extension or a full outside number.
  3. Save. It works straight away — dial *130 and the code.

Company-wide speed dials are set up by your phone system administrator and work the same way. Ask them for the list, or contact us.

Handset buttons: many desk phones also let you program a line key or a memory key to a number. That’s a feature of the handset itself and is separate from the *130 codes above.

What you should see

Dial *130 plus the code and the phone rings the number behind it, showing the full number on screen once connected.

Troubleshooting

  • *130 plus my code doesn’t connect. Check the code in Self Care — it’s the two-digit code you set, not the number. If Self Care has no Speed Dial section, the service isn’t enabled for your extension — contact us.
  • A company speed dial works for a colleague but not for me. Speed dial has to be enabled on each extension. Contact us and we’ll turn it on for yours.
  • I want the same speed dials on Communicator. Communicator uses contacts instead (see How do I manage my contacts in Communicator?); the star codes are for the desk phone.
