What this does
Covers getting a handset that already has another provider’s settings on it — a second-hand phone, one from a previous job, or anything not originally set up for Bluehubcloud — working on your extension.
What you’ll need
- The handset’s exact make, model, MAC address, and serial number — all four, before you do anything else to the device.
- Do not factory reset the handset until Bluehub tells you to. It needs to be added to our system first — resetting it too early doesn’t achieve anything on its own.
Steps
- Check the handset’s exact model against our supported handset list (see Which phones work with Bluehubcloud PBX?).
- If the model is listed as supported: send Bluehubcloud Helpdesk the handset’s MAC address, serial number, and model. We’ll add it to our system on our end.
- Once we confirm it’s been added, factory reset the handset, then connect it to power and your network — it should now auto-provision and pull down its configuration, the same as a brand-new handset (see Connect your new Bluehubcloud handset).
- If the model isn’t listed: don’t attempt a DIY setup — contact Bluehubcloud support. We can often write a custom configuration for a device that isn’t on our standard supported list, so contact us before assuming it can’t be connected.
What you should see
Once we’ve added the handset and you’ve factory reset it, it shows your extension after a few minutes on the network, the same as a brand-new one.
Troubleshooting
- A supported, reset handset still won’t auto-provision. First confirm Bluehubcloud actually confirmed the handset was added to our system before you reset it — it won’t provision at all until that’s done. If it was added and still isn’t working, this can happen on a network coming from a previous managed setup, where a setting the phone relies on to find our system isn’t present. Some handsets also don’t support automatic provisioning discovery at all — in that case Bluehub may need to program a provisioning rule directly onto the handset pointing it at our server. Either way, don’t try to enter a server address, extension, or password on the phone yourself — contact us and we’ll sort out the connection from our end.
- The model isn’t on the supported list. Contact Bluehubcloud support rather than trying to configure it manually — we can often write a custom configuration for it rather than needing it to be on the standard list.
- You’re not sure whether it’s been factory reset properly. Check the manufacturer’s own reset instructions for that specific model — a partial reset can leave old settings behind.
