What this does
Sends every call that would ring your desk phone to another number instead — a colleague’s extension, your mobile, or any outside number — until you turn it off. Handy for a day out of the office or when you’re covering from somewhere else.
What you’ll need
- A desk phone registered to your extension, set up by us (see Connect your new Bluehubcloud handset).
- The number you want calls sent to.
- Call forwarding turned on for your extension. It usually is; if the code below doesn’t respond, contact us and we’ll set it up for you.
Steps
Turning the divert on:
- Pick up the handset and dial *71 followed by the number, all in one go. For example *71 2001 to divert to extension 2001, or *71 0412 345 678 to divert to a mobile.
- Listen for the confirmation, then hang up. From now on your calls ring the other number.
Turning the divert off:
- Dial *72 and hang up after the confirmation. Calls ring your desk phone again.
Setting it from a computer instead: log in to the Online Self Care portal (see How do I use the Online Self Care portal?), open Enhanced Services, and set Call Forwarding there. You can choose to forward only when you’re busy or don’t answer, rather than every call.
Use the star code or Self Care, not the phone’s own menu. Most handsets have a Call Forward option in their own settings menu. On Bluehubcloud PBX that phone-side forwarding is turned off for security, so a divert set there won’t work and will leave you thinking calls are covered when they aren’t. The *71 code sets the divert on your phone system itself, which is what actually routes the call.
What you should see
After dialling *71 plus the number you hear a short confirmation. Ring your extension from another phone and the other number rings instead. After *72, your desk phone rings again.
Troubleshooting
- I set it on the phone’s menu and calls still come to my desk. See the note above — use *71 instead, and turn the phone-menu forward back off so it doesn’t confuse things.
- *71 doesn’t do anything. Call forwarding may not be enabled for your extension, or your phone system may use a different code. Contact us and we’ll sort it.
- Calls to my mobile show an odd number. Diverted calls can present your business number or the original caller’s number, depending on how your phone system is set up. If you want it changed, contact us.
- I only want calls diverted when I don’t answer. That’s a rule you set in Online Self Care under Enhanced Services, not with the star code — the code diverts every call.
- I forgot to turn it off. Dial *72 from your desk phone at any time.
