What this does

Stops your desk phone ringing while you’re in a meeting or need to concentrate. Callers go wherever your phone system sends them when you’re unavailable — usually your voicemail — and you turn it off again when you’re free.

What you’ll need

  • A desk phone registered to your extension, set up by us (see Connect your new Bluehubcloud handset).
  • Nothing else. If the code below doesn’t respond, Do Not Disturb may not be enabled for your extension — contact us and we’ll set it up for you.

Steps

Turning it on:

  1. Pick up the handset and dial *78. Listen for the confirmation and hang up.

Turning it off:

  1. Dial *79. Listen for the confirmation and hang up. Your phone rings again.

If your phone has a DND key: most handsets also have a DND button or soft key. It does the same job from the phone’s side. Whichever you use, remember to turn it off the same way you turned it on — a star-code DND is not cleared by the phone’s DND key, and vice versa.

From a computer: log in to the Online Self Care portal (see How do I use the Online Self Care portal?), open Enhanced Services, and set Do Not Disturb there. You can set how long it stays on and where callers should go.

What you should see

After *78 your phone’s screen may show a DND icon (this depends on the handset). Ring your extension from another phone: it doesn’t ring, and the caller hears your voicemail greeting or whatever your phone system is set to do. After *79, it rings normally again.

Troubleshooting

  • My phone stopped ringing and I don’t remember setting anything. Dial *79 to clear a star-code DND, and check the phone’s own DND key isn’t lit. If it still doesn’t ring, check whether a divert is on (dial *72 to clear one — see How do I divert my desk phone to another number?).
  • Callers are getting silence, not voicemail. Where DND sends callers is set on your phone system. Contact us and we’ll point it at your voicemail.
  • I set DND in Communicator and my desk phone still rings. Communicator’s status (see How do I set my status in Communicator?) and the desk phone’s DND are separate. Use *78 on the handset as well, or ask us to link them.
  • *78 doesn’t do anything. Do Not Disturb may not be enabled for your extension. Contact us.
