What this does

Lets you view an IP security camera’s live stream inside Communicator — separate from the webcam video calling feature (see How do I make a video call in Communicator?). This is for watching your own CCTV/surveillance camera, not placing a video call.

What you’ll need

  • An IP camera that streams MJPEG over HTTP — this is the only stream type supported.
  • The camera’s stream URL.

Steps

  1. Open Preferences > Video and go to the Surveillance Camera tab.
  2. Turn the surveillance camera feature on.
  3. Enter your camera’s stream URL in the URL field.
  4. Optional — enable always on top so the camera view stays visible even when you switch to another window.

What you should see

The camera’s live feed appears inside Communicator, staying on top of other windows if you enabled that option.

Troubleshooting

  • The stream doesn’t load. Confirm your camera actually outputs MJPEG over HTTP — no other stream format is supported, regardless of what the camera itself is otherwise capable of.
  • You’re trying to use this for a video call instead. This feature is for viewing an external camera feed only — see How do I make a video call in Communicator? for making or receiving an actual video call.
  • You don’t see the Surveillance Camera tab at all. If this feature isn’t available on your Bluehubcloud PBX, contact us and we’ll set it up for you.
