What this does
Starts a face-to-face video call with a contact in Communicator, and shows you how to choose which camera it uses or improve quality if the call looks poor.
What you’ll need
- A working webcam.
- The person you want to call needs to already be in your Communicator contacts.
Steps
- Right-click the contact you want to video call.
- Select Video Call from the menu.
What you should see
The video call window opens and connects.
Troubleshooting
- Communicator is using the wrong camera. Open Preferences, go to Video > Devices, and choose the correct camera from the drop-down list.
- Video looks blocky or keeps freezing. Open Preferences, go to Video > Quality, and choose Low or Standard instead of High resolution — this helps most on a slower or unstable internet connection.
- You want to change other video call behaviour — Preferences > Video also has a Codecs tab, a Meeting tab (Enable HD, Mirror my video, Always display participants, Turn on my video when joining, Turn off incoming video — these apply to Communicator Meeting, see How do I schedule and join a Communicator Meeting?), and a Surveillance tab (a different feature — external security camera viewing, see How do I view a security camera feed in Communicator?).
- You don’t see a Video Call option when you right-click a contact. If this feature isn’t available on your Bluehubcloud PBX, contact us and we’ll set it up for you.
- The picture is fine but the audio is choppy or delayed. That’s a call-quality issue, not a video one — see Why do my Communicator calls sound bad?.
