What this does
Shows you how to check Communicator’s built-in call quality indicator, so you can tell whether your internet connection is causing choppy audio, delay, or dropped words on a call.
What you’ll need
- Have Communicator open and be on an active call, or have just finished one — call quality information is only available for a call in progress or a recent one.
Steps
- During a call, look at the top right corner of the call window for the call quality indicator.
- Click the indicator to open the Call Quality window for more detail.
- Check the four measurements it shows: MOS Score (an overall quality rating), Round Trip Time, Packet Loss, and Jitter.
What you should see
A good connection shows an overall rating like Excellent, with low packet loss, low jitter, and little delay. A poor rating points to a network problem rather than a fault with Communicator itself.
Troubleshooting
- Calls sound choppy or the indicator shows poor quality. This usually points to your internet connection, not Communicator — try a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi, move closer to your router, or check whether something else on your network is using a lot of bandwidth.
- Bluehub support has asked for your call quality report. Turn on logging first: open Preferences, go to Phone > Advanced, and turn on Enable call quality metrics logging. After that, open the Call Quality tab under Diagnostic Logs, select the call from the list, and click Export call quality report.
- You don’t see a call quality indicator at all. If this feature isn’t available on your Bluehubcloud PBX, contact us and we’ll set it up for you.
- You can’t hear anything at all, not just poor quality. That’s a different issue — see Why can’t I hear anything (or why can’t people hear me) on Communicator Desktop?.
