What this does

The new Communicator desktop app can connect to an AI assistant on your computer, such as Claude Desktop or Claude Code. Once connected, you can ask the assistant about your own calls, chats and meetings in plain English, and it answers from what actually happened.

This is a beta feature in the new Communicator desktop app. It isn’t in the older desktop app, the web app or Communicator GO. If you’re not on the new app yet, contact us and we’ll move you across.

Things you can ask:

  • “Who called while I was out this morning?”
  • “Which calls did I miss last week?”
  • “Summarise my chat with Sarah from Tuesday.”
  • “What meetings have I got tomorrow?”
  • “Draft my daily update from yesterday’s calls and chats.”

What you’ll need

  • The new Communicator desktop app on your computer, signed in. See How do I set up Communicator on my computer? for setting up Communicator on your computer.
  • An AI assistant that supports MCP (Model Context Protocol, the standard way AI tools connect to other apps), installed on the same computer. Communicator has ready-made setups for Claude Code and Claude Desktop, and a server address for other MCP apps such as Cursor.
  • For Claude Desktop only: Node.js and Git installed on your computer. Communicator’s Claude Desktop setup needs both.
  • Your organisation’s OK to use an AI assistant with work information, if your business has an AI policy.

How your information is handled

  • Read-only. The assistant can look at your chat history, call history and scheduled meetings. It can’t send messages, make calls or change anything.
  • Only your own information. It sees what you’d see in your own Communicator app, nothing from other staff.
  • Runs on your computer. The connection starts when you sign in to Communicator and stops when you sign out.
  • Your AI provider sees what the assistant reads. When you ask a question, the details the assistant pulls in are processed by your AI provider under its own terms, the same as anything else you type into it.

Steps

  1. Open the Communicator desktop app and sign in.
  2. Click Settings (bottom left), then choose MCP Server. It’s marked Beta.
  3. Make sure Enable MCP Server is ticked.
  4. Under Client configuration, find the section for your AI tool and click the copy button on the right of its box:
  • Claude Code: copy the command and run it in the terminal where you use Claude Code.
  • Claude Desktop: copy the settings block and add it to Claude Desktop’s configuration file (claude_desktop_config.json), following Claude Desktop’s own instructions for adding an MCP server.
  • Other MCP-compatible apps: copy the server address and add it in that app’s MCP settings.
  1. Restart your AI tool so it picks up the new connection.
  2. Ask your AI assistant a question about your calls or chats, such as “Which calls did I miss yesterday?”

Optional extra security: tick Require bearer token authentication. With it off, any app on your computer can connect without a token, but only from your own computer. If you turn it on, your AI tool needs the token too. Click Get more info on the same page for how to set that up.

What you should see

Your AI assistant answers using your real call history, chats and meetings, for example a list of yesterday’s missed calls with the times and numbers. In most AI tools you’ll also see the connection listed as bluehubcloud.

Troubleshooting

  • There’s no MCP Server option in Settings. You’re on the older Communicator app. Contact us and we’ll move you to the new app.
  • The assistant says it can’t reach Communicator. Check Communicator is open and signed in on the same computer. The connection stops when you sign out.
  • The assistant still can’t connect. Check Enable MCP Server is ticked in Settings → MCP Server.
  • Claude Desktop shows an error for the bluehubcloud connection. Install Node.js and Git, then restart Claude Desktop.
  • It worked, then stopped after you ticked the token option. Your AI tool needs the token as well. Click Get more info in Settings → MCP Server for how to add it, or untick the option.
  • The answer looks incomplete. The assistant only sees what’s in your own Communicator history (chats, call history and meetings), so ask about those.

If this feature isn’t available on your Bluehubcloud PBX, contact us and we’ll set it up for you.
