What this does

Lets you plan ahead for a bad day, such as a power or internet outage, a flood or a closed site, so you can move calls somewhere else in seconds. You set up a disaster recovery plan in advance and switch it on only when you need it. One plan can cover many services at once.

What you’ll need

Steps

Option 1: a plan for one service

  1. Open the service from Services.
  2. Select Disaster Recovery, then New (or Existing to reuse a plan you already have).
  3. Name the plan and choose where calls go: a number, or a service you’ve already set up.
  4. Select Save.

Option 2: one plan for several services

  1. Go to Accounts, open the DR Groups tab and select + Add DR Group.
  2. Give the group a clear name, such as “Sydney office outage”.
  3. Move the services it should cover into the right-hand list. Select All adds them all at once.
  4. Choose where calls go: a number or a service.
  5. Select Save.

When you need it

  1. Go to Accounts and open the disaster recovery list.
  2. Select Activate on the plan. Calls follow the plan straight away.
  3. When things are back to normal, select Deactivate. Calls return to their usual routes.

Use Edit or Delete on the same screen to change or remove a plan. Disaster recovery works on smart routing, caller menu, nearest branch and advanced call flow services.

What you should see

While a plan is active, calls to the services it covers go to the emergency destination. After you deactivate it, they go back to normal.

Troubleshooting

  • Calls didn’t move. Check the plan shows as active, and that the service is in the plan (or the plan is chosen on the service).
  • I chose a service as the destination but it isn’t in the list. It has to exist first. Create it, then come back to the plan.
  • I’m locked out during an outage. Smart Number Manager is online, so you can switch plans from any phone or laptop with internet access. If you can’t get in, call us and we’ll switch it for you.
