What this does

Greets callers with a recorded message and lets them choose where their call goes, for example “Press 1 for sales, 2 for support”. In Smart Number Manager this is an Interactive service. A menu can have up to 10 options, and an option can lead to another menu.

What you’ll need

Steps

  1. Sign in and select Create New Service.
  2. Choose your account, select Interactive Service, then Confirm.
  3. Name the service and attach your number under Assign Numbers.
  4. Under the main menu settings, name the menu and use Audio Select to choose the greeting callers hear.
  5. Select Availability to set your opening hours, for example Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00.
  6. Build the menu: for each option, enter a name and choose what it does:
  • Advanced: rings a phone or group (set up the same way as How do I ring a group of phones from one number?).
  • Menu: plays another menu, for example a second level for different products.
  • Service: hands the call to another service on your account.
  1. New options show in red on the left until they’re set up. Select each red option and fill in its details. It turns green when it’s complete.
  2. When every option is green, select Save Service, check the summary, then select Confirm Service.

What you should see

The service shows as Active. Call your number: you should hear your greeting, and each key should take you to the right place.

Troubleshooting

  • Saving shows an error. One or more options are still red. Select each red option and complete it.
  • Callers outside opening hours just hear the menu. Add the Out of Hours extra so after-hours calls go to voicemail or another number (see How do I set opening hours, after-hours and public holidays?).
  • I need more than 10 options. Use an option that leads to a second menu, or ask us about an advanced call flow.
