What this does
Yes — in almost all cases your existing phone numbers come with you. Porting is the industry process that moves a number from your current provider to your Bluehubcloud PBX, and we manage it for you from lodgement to cutover. Your customers keep dialling the same number; what changes is the system that answers it.
What you’ll need
- A recent bill or invoice from your current provider. Porting is approved or rejected on whether the details we lodge exactly match your current provider’s records, so the paperwork matters more than anything else:
- The account holder name, exactly as your provider has it — “Smith Plumbing Pty Ltd” and “Smith Plumbing” are different names to a porting system.
- The service address registered on the account, which isn’t always your current premises.
- The account number or service ID from the invoice. If your phone service is bundled with NBN broadband, this is often the broadband account number.
- Any PIN or password your provider uses to verify the account.
- The full list of numbers you want to bring across, written out with area codes.
- Your old service left active. Don’t cancel anything with your current provider until we confirm the port has completed — a cancelled number can’t be ported.
How it works
- Give us your numbers and a copy of a recent invoice.
- We check what kind of port each number needs. Single local numbers on simple services are the fast lane — typically one to five business days, most within two or three. Number blocks, 1300/1800 numbers, and numbers on complex or multi-line services take longer — usually a few weeks, and we’ll scope the realistic timeframe when we lodge it.
- You sign a Port Authority Form giving us permission to move the numbers.
- We lodge the port with your current provider and track it through to approval.
- On cutover day the numbers move to your Bluehubcloud PBX, which we’ll already have configured and tested — calls simply start arriving on the new system.
- Once we confirm every number is across and working, you can close the old account.
What you should see
Your numbers ring on your Bluehubcloud PBX — desk phones, Communicator and Communicator GO — and callers notice nothing at all. We confirm with you when the port is complete.
What can slow a port down
- Name mismatch. The single most common rejection: the account holder name on the form doesn’t exactly match the provider’s records. Check the invoice, not memory.
- Wrong service ID. Especially on bundled NBN services, where the phone number and the account identifier are different things.
- An outstanding balance with your current provider can block the port until it’s cleared.
- A cancelled or inactive number. If the number’s already been disconnected, there may be nothing left to port — talk to us quickly if you’ve recently cancelled anything.
