What this does

Yes — Bluehubcloud PBX connects to Microsoft Teams in two distinct ways, and you can use either one on its own or both together:

  • Status/presence sync: your Teams status (Available, Busy, Do Not Disturb, Away) automatically updates your Communicator status too, so colleagues see one consistent picture of your availability instead of two different ones. See How do we get Microsoft Teams sync set up?.
  • Communicator for Teams: a desktop add-in that brings full Bluehubcloud PBX calling — placing and receiving calls, SMS, conference calls, call parking, voicemail — directly into the Microsoft Teams interface, so you can handle calls without leaving Teams. See Using your Bluehubcloud PBX with Microsoft Teams day to day.

Both are done-for-you: contact us and we’ll get either (or both) switched on for you.

What you’ll need

Nothing to set up yourself — this is background information. If you want either feature turned on, contact us (see How do we get Microsoft Teams sync set up? for what to expect).

Steps

There’s nothing to configure here — this article just explains what’s available:

  1. If you only want your Communicator status to match your Teams status automatically, that’s status/presence sync — see How do we get Microsoft Teams sync set up?.
  2. If you want to place and receive Bluehubcloud PBX calls, send SMS, and join conferences from inside Microsoft Teams itself, that’s Communicator for Teams — see Using your Bluehubcloud PBX with Microsoft Teams day to day.
  3. Most teams that use Communicator for Teams also turn on presence sync, since the two work well together — but they’re independent features, and you can have one without the other.

Wondering about Microsoft licensing? Your calls are carried by Bluehubcloud PBX, not Microsoft’s phone network. Microsoft’s own licensing requirements can change, so rather than quote them here, log a ticket with our helpdesk and we’ll confirm exactly what your organisation needs on the Microsoft side.

What you should see

Whichever feature (or both) you have, it works alongside your existing Communicator apps and Microsoft Teams — you don’t lose anything you already have, you gain the connection between them.

Troubleshooting

  • Not sure which one a colleague is describing. “Teams sync” usually means status/presence sync (see How do we get Microsoft Teams sync set up?); “Communicator for Teams” or “the Teams add-in” usually means the calling add-in (see Using your Bluehubcloud PBX with Microsoft Teams day to day) — the names are easy to conflate, so check which behaviour they’re actually describing.
  • Want to try it before committing. Contact our sales team — we can walk your team through Communicator for Teams on a short call and get it enabled quickly.
