Additional FAQs Information

Do I need a desk phone for my business?

i

It depends on your business and how you communicate with your customers and clients. If you frequently communicate with people by phone and you want to have a dedicated phone line for your business, a desk phone can be a good choice. Desk phones are often more reliable than cell phones and can be more comfortable to use for extended phone calls.
On the other hand, if you mostly communicate with people online or by email, or if you prefer to use your personal cell phone or laptop for business calls, you might not need a desk phone. Bluehub2Mobile & Bluehub2Softphone may be all you need.
Ultimately, the decision of whether to use a desk phone for your business will depend on your specific needs and preferences. It can be helpful to consider factors such as the type of work you do, the volume of calls you receive, and your budget.

Will my office switch Power my new VoIP Phones
i

If you want to power your VoIP phones in the office, you’ll need a PoE switch.

The benefit of this is you can get rid of power adapters required for each handset, giving your staff a less cluttered desktop.

To determine if a switch is PoE (Power over Ethernet), you can check the documentation or specifications for the switch. This information is often available on the manufacturer's website or in the user manual for the switch.

You can also check the physical characteristics of the switch. Many PoE switches have one or more ports with a distinctive logo, such as a lightning bolt, to indicate that they support PoE. Some switches also have a separate power supply for the PoE functionality, which may be evident from the presence of a power cord and/or a power supply unit.

Finally, you can try connecting a PoE-powered device, such as a PoE Office Phone, camera or a PoE access point, to the switch and see if it powers on. This is a simple and quick way to determine if the switch is PoE-enabled.

What is a SIP Number?
i

A SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) number is a telephone number that is used to make voice calls over the Internet using a SIP-based communication system. SIP is a standard protocol for initiating, maintaining, modifying, and terminating real-time sessions that involve video, voice, messaging and other communications applications and services between two or more endpoints on IP networks. A SIP number can be used to make and receive calls from a traditional phone network, a VoIP phone system, or a mobile device using a SIP-based application.

SIP numbers are usually assigned by a VoIP service provider or a SIP trunking provider, and they can be used to make and receive calls from anywhere in the world as long as there is an Internet connection.

How do I connect my new phones to my network?
i

Bluehub will either deliver your handsets already configured or install them for you onsite.

If you have chosen a self-installation, you'll need to start with a quick test before connecting all the handsets.

Firstly, Connect the IP phone to your switch using an Ethernet cable to make sure your internet connection is working correctly.

If you have a PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch the phones will power up once plugged in, otherwise you’ll need to use a power adapter for each IP phone.

If the IP phone has a display screen, it should show an IP address has been assigned by your network.

After this you’ll also see the phone download its configuration.

Once the IP phone is configured, it should now be able to make and receive calls using your network.

Press the voicemail button on the handset to hear if it’s connected to the Bluehubcloud PBX.

If this test fails, please contact your IT company or Bluehub helpdesk.

If this test works, please proceed to placing all handsets on each desk and plugging them into each relevant wall socket.

Plugging IP Phones into structured cabling

You will notice that every desk should have a wall socket, normally with a number on it.

If when you plug the handset into this socket and it still doesn’t work, this is normally one of three reasons:

  1. The handset needs a power adapter because the switch is not PoE.

(If we didn’t supply the switch, lets determine if a switch is PoE (Power over Ethernet), you can check the documentation or specifications for the switch.

Finally, you can try connecting a PoE-powered device, such as a PoE IP Phone, camera or a PoE access point, to the switch and see if it powers on. This is a simple and quick way to determine if the switch is PoE-enabled.)

  1. The patch panel port is not plugged into the switch.

(Take note of the number on the wall socket and look for this same number on the patch panel. All cabling usually goes back to a central point connected by a patch panel which is patched into your switch.

A patch panel is a mounted hardware assembly that contains ports used to connect and manage cables in a communications network. It is typically used in a communications cabinet or a similar type of physical infrastructure to connect and organize cables. The patch panel is a central point where the cables from different devices and systems can be interconnected, allowing for the easy management and organization of the cables. The patch panel is usually mounted on a rack or in a cabinet and contains a series of ports that can be used to connect cables using patch cords. The patch panel is an important part of a network infrastructure as it allows for the easy management of cables and helps to reduce clutter and improve the overall organization of the network.)

  1. The cable between the wall socket and patch panel is faulty and not connected correctly.

This will need to be fixed by a cabling person.

Do my staff need Softphones and Mobile Apps to better Communicate?

A softphone is a software program that allows you to make phone calls over the internet using your computer or mobile device. Whether or not you need a softphone for your business depends on your business's specific needs and communication setup.

Here are a few things to consider:

Is your business primarily based in a physical office, or do your employees work remotely?

If you have a physical office with a traditional phone system, a softphone may not be necessary.

However, if your employees work remotely or if you have a virtual office, a softphone can be a convenient way for them to make and receive calls, especially while working from home.

Do you need to make or receive calls from multiple devices? A softphone can be configured to work with multiple devices, such as a laptop, desktop, smartphone, or tablet. This can be useful if you need to be able to make and receive calls from different locations or devices and work from anywhere.

Do you need advanced call features? Many softphones come with advanced call features, such as call forwarding, voicemail, conference calling, and call recording. These features can be useful for businesses that need more advanced communication capabilities and complex call routing.

In summary, whether a softphone is right for your business depends on your specific needs and communication setup. If you think a softphone could be useful for your business, it might be worth considering a Bluehub2Softphone and Bluehub2Mobile Applications.

What is VoIP?

VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. It is a method of transmitting voice and multimedia content over the internet.

VoIP converts the analog audio signals of a phone conversation into digital data packets, which can be transmitted over the internet or other digital networks.

This enables users to make phone calls using their internet connection often by using a SIP-based communication system instead of a traditional phone line.

VoIP has many advantages, including lower cost, greater flexibility, and a wide range of features such as call forwarding, conference calling, and voicemail.

What internet speed do I need for my business?

For VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) calls, you will typically need an internet connection with a download speed of at least 100 Kbps (kilobits per second) and an upload speed of at least 50 Kbps. This will allow you to make basic VoIP calls without any issues.

For video calls, you will need a faster internet connection. The specific speed requirements will depend on the video call service you are using and the quality of video you want to achieve. In general, a download speed of at least 1.5 Mbps (megabits per second) and an upload speed of at least 500 Kbps is recommended for high-quality video calls. However, if you are using a service that allows you to adjust the video quality, you may be able to get by with a lower speed connection.

It's worth noting that these are just general guidelines, and you may experience better or worse performance depending on your specific internet connection and the other equipment you are using (e.g., router, webcam, microphone).

Furthermore, many businesses today also use other services such as DaaS "Desktop as a Service," which is a cloud-based service that provides users with access to a virtual desktop. The required internet speed for DaaS will depend on the specific tasks and applications you need to use on the virtual desktop, as well as the number of users who will be accessing the desktop at the same time.

In general, for a single user, you will want an internet connection with a minimum download speed of at least 25 megabits per second (Mbps) and an upload speed of at least 3 Mbps. If you have multiple users accessing the virtual desktop simultaneously, or if you need to use resource-intensive applications, you may need a faster internet connection.

It's also worth noting that the internet connection at the location where you will be accessing the virtual desktop should also be stable and reliable, as a fluctuating or intermittent connection can affect the performance of the virtual desktop.

So, if you have an office of staff using DaaS like services and VoIP telephony it’s advisable to also have a business grade internet connection.
